Ballast Control Operator
Position Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- USCG MODU Ballast Control License or equivalent.
- Experience as a Ballast Control Operator or completion of the Ballast Control Operator Competency Instruction.
- Experience in cargo operations and effects on vessel ballast and loading.
- Knowledge of ocean weather and sea state conditions affecting rig operations.
- Proficient in office software and Ballast System Control System Operation.
- Handle multiple tasks on a daily basis and follow-up on all tasking to completion.
Essential Functions
Rig Operations
- Perform routine “barge watch” and monitoring duties in the control room.
- Regularly ensure safety and integrity of the unit is maintained.
- Perform routine observations and recording of meteorological data, current (speed and direction), sea surface, water depth, etc., for historical information and use.
- Assist in stability planning of ballast, consumable liquids and cargo storage.
- Carry out various administrative functions and projects.
- Maintain knowledge of marine operations, drilling operations, operation of equipment, rules and regulations and company policies to support operations.
- Supervise personnel during loading and unloading of supply vessels.
- Monitor and report and/or correct any discrepancy related to safety.
- Provide leadership and direction to less experienced rig personnel as necessary.
Maintenance and Repair
- Assist in executing and overseeing the projected maintenance, inspection and certification programs applicable to assigned area.
- Maintain meteorological monitoring and recording equipment.
- Assist in troubleshooting and servicing and repair of equipment in assigned area.
- Perform inspections and maintenance on lifesaving and safety equipment.
- Periodic inspections on structural parts and systems on the rig.
- Perform other maintenance operations as directed.
- Submit equipment reports when required by the Barge Engineer.
- In cooperation with rig management, keep records of all maintenance.
- Provide progress reports of accomplishments each month as well as detailed reports on any major breakdown, requirements or improvements needed.
- Supervise Roustabouts and maintenance personnel during periodic inspections on the structural parts and systems of the rig.
- Supervise inspection and maintenance on safety and lifesaving equipment.
- Other duties as assigned by the Barge Engineer or Rig Manager.
