Position Qualifications
- College Degree Maritime Deck Transportation or equivalent
- USCG Unrestricted Masters License or equivalent
- Command experience as a vessel captain
- Excellent leadership, communication and management skills
- Computer skills in information systems and computer control consoles
- Dynamic Positioning Systems
- Marine environmental and hazardous material regulations and procedures
- Offshore marine operations, industrial environment, and drilling operations
- Speak English and language of the country where drilling operations occur
Essential Functions
- Responsible for the overall operation, management and safety of the unit offshore.
- Command the vessel and take necessary action to ensure safety and discipline.
- Navigate a safe course and ensure an economical voyage.
- Maneuver and position the vessel on to the well location with anchors and/or Dynamic Positioning and ensure safety and position during operations.
- Direct and/or witness the pretension tests of the anchors at each well location or the pre-testing/pre-checks of the DP systems and thrusters.
- Ensure the integrity and stability of the vessel at all times and take necessary action to relocate/reposition the vessel during adverse weather or hostile environment situations to prevent any harm to personnel or damage to the vessel.
- Ensure organization of, oversee and approve the overall maintenance, inspection, and certification programs for the hull and marine-related equipment/machinery.
- Ensure proper hygiene is practiced with respect to the quality, storage and preparation of food, cleanliness of the kitchen and accommodation, hospital upkeep and medical care, suitable drinking water, and suitable laundry facilities.
- Review and discuss the client’s projected well program before and during operations to stay abreast of pertinent activities and time factors. Ensure that the optimum quantity of fuel, lubricants, potable water, etc., will be on board.
- Prepare, organize, evaluate, and/or approve periodical status reports as well as evaluations and assessments for marine supervisory and support personnel and recommend merit raises or promotions for deserving personnel.
- Ensure that all personnel on board are familiar with safety precautions, procedures and drills and that the required safety equipment is on board at all times.
- Recommend action in case of personnel or equipment problems.
- Carry out various administrative functions.
- Be familiar with each new location’s local labor and/or union situation, hospital and medical facilities, health requirements or hazards, food and fuel availability, general politics, social customs, local laws and customs/immigration regulations, and that all personnel assigned to the vessel are advised of pertinent information.
- Meet with the Rig Manager daily to discuss/update on matters and/or projects occurring or projected to occur.
- Ensure that any spillage will be avoided and cleaned up.
- Prepare annual operating budget for the vessel.
